I am Dr. Sabarivasan Velsamy. I have completed my Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree at Texila American University (TAU) in August 2020. I take immense pleasure in sharing with you all that in December 2020, I cleared my Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) in India on my first attempt.
I use this opportunity to thank TAU and co-Texilians for helping me throughout this journey. My experience at TAU was new and wonderful. TAU and my life in Guyana have groomed me as a doctor as well as a good human.
I chose TAU in Guyana for my medical degree as I found it one of the best medical universities abroad to study medicine. TAU has offered me all the skills and knowledge I need to excel in my medical career.
Whenever I think of preclinical, the first person who comes to my mind is Prof. Ganesh Elumalai, who had laid a strong foundation on embryology and anatomy skills. I thank Prof. Aminuddin for being my well-wisher and guide me throughout my medical degree.
My experience during clinical rotations is incredible. I took my clinical rotation at Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) in Guyana. At GPHC, TAU’s associate professor doctors made me strong in my clinical basics, and I gained enough knowledge that helped me complete my medical degree and clear FMGE. The expertise I acquired during my tenure at TAU and GPHC has helped me a lot during my preparation for FMGE in a short span. I personally thank Dr. Rozan (O/G), Dr. Zenelia (Psychiatrist), and Dr. Baldeo (Medicine), who have motivated me during the clinical rotations at GPHC.
Besides curriculum, we have a sports lounge and cricket that were my stress busters during my tough times. I miss playing Texila Premier League.
My heartfelt thanks to TAU for everything without which I would not achieve my dream of becoming a doctor.
Finally, I thank my buddies Dr. Aathif and Dr. Pavithra, who have supported me throughout this journey toward FMGE. And, I would like to record my good time and fond memories with Dr. Sowndariya, Dr. Dina, Dr. Manoj, Dr. Dhanapal, and Dr. Nisha.
I want to share my best wishes to all TAU students. You are in the right place. Work hard, believe in yourself, and enjoy your life. You will achieve what you want!
