Expansion Project
Motivated by recent accreditations and a surge in demand for its MD program, Texila American University embarks on an ambitious campus expansion initiative. This project aims to cater to the accommodation needs of 400 students and 30 families of Texila staff, reflecting the university’s commitment to enhancing the overall student and staff experience and fostering a conducive learning environment.
The expansion project loan is funded jointly by IDB Invest and Republic Bank Guyana Limited with new housing facilities for staff and students. The $11 million financing package includes a senior loan of $5 million from IDB Invest and $4 million from Republic Bank.
The project is expected to facilitate the increased student enrollment of almost 73% by 2026 and a 20% increase in the number of graduated students by the same year. This will positively contribute to the human capital development of Guyana focusing on quality education.
The construction of the student housing will comprise 86 two-room apartments, and 16 one-room apartments and will provide more affordable accommodation for students on campus. The staff housing will cater to 30 families of Texila’s staff.
With IDB Invest’s support, TAU will strengthen its environmental and social practices by implementing an Environmental and Social Action Plan to enhance its capacity to manage risks and impacts associated with existing operations and the planned expansion.
The project is expected to contribute to the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Quality Education, (SDG 4).
Texila American University stands proudly among the academic elite, having secured two prestigious accreditations: CAAM-HP and ACCM.
