A Virtual White Coat Ceremony was conducted on 9th April 2021. Dr. Vishwa Mahadeo, Director General of the Ministry of Health, was the ceremony’s chief guest. Dr. Dheeraj Bansal, Dean of the College of Medicine, Mr. Syam Kumar, CEO, Dr. Hugh Duckworth, Chief Academic Officer, and Dr. Sheik Amir, Associate Dean, were also part of the ceremony.
The ceremony was conducted both online and offline simultaneously. The ceremony followed all the COVID-19 protocols and proceeded with limited capacity. A total of 54 students participated in the ceremony.
A White Coat Ceremony is a ritual conducted on the occasion of a student’s transition from classrooms to clinical studies. Many students consider the ceremony a rite of passage. This tradition is followed in medical schools and schools of other health-related fields. As part of the ceremony, the students are presented with a white coat. The students also take the Hippocratic oath.
The ceremony, on 9th April, started with a wonderful welcome address delivered by Dr. Dheeraj Bansal. Following the welcome address, Mr. Syam Kumar offered his words of encouragement to the students.
Dr. Hugh Duckworth delivered a message to the students, and Dr. Sheik Amir spoke about the importance of the White Coat Ceremony.
Your dreams are yours alone to fulfill. You can achieve anything you set your mind to and work honestly and diligently to achieve. Believe fervently, “Lord, there is NOTHING you and I cannot achieve TOGETHER.”

The above words were offered as advice to the students by the chief guest as part of his speech. Dr. Vishwa Mahadeo is the Director-General of the Ministry of Health and is a Member of Parliament. He graduated in General Medicine (MD) with a specialization in surgery. Trauma and orthopedics. He has experience being a physician, a medical superintendent, and a CEO.
After the chief guest’s speech, the basic science faculty were introduced. After the faculty introduction, Dr. Dheeraj Bansal presented the students their white coats. The students then proceeded to take the Hippocratic oath before their classmates, teachers, and parents. Dr. Dheeraj Bansal then gave the closing address of the ceremony.
