Texila American University, Guyana, remains committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and respectful academic environment for all its students. As part of this ongoing commitment, an Awareness Session on the “Student Mistreatment Process” was successfully held on July 11, 2025, at 3:00 PM in Classroom B#205.
The session was delivered by Dr. Hugh Duckworth, Provost of Texila American University, who addressed a diverse audience of students and faculty members. The primary objective of the session was to raise awareness about the university’s policies regarding student mistreatment, outline the available channels for reporting such incidents, and inform students about the support services in place to ensure their voices are heard and their concerns addressed confidentially and fairly.
The event commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr. Dheeraj Bansal, Chief Academic Officer and Dean of the University, who emphasized the importance of maintaining a culture of mutual respect, empathy, and professionalism within the academic community. He encouraged students to speak up against any form of mistreatment and reassured them of the university’s commitment to ensuring a safe educational environment.
Dr. Duckworth’s presentation was both informative and thought-provoking. He elaborated on various forms of mistreatment that students may encounter, such as discrimination, harassment, or academic intimidation, and explained the steps the university has taken to address and prevent such issues. He also highlighted the importance of maintaining transparency in reporting processes and ensuring protection against retaliation.
The session concluded with an interactive Q&A segment, where students had the opportunity to ask questions and share concerns. The open dialogue fostered a sense of trust and engagement, further strengthening the bond between the student body and the university leadership. A vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Bansal, appreciating the presence of Dr. Duckworth and commending the participants for their active involvement.
The enthusiastic participation of both students and faculty underscored the relevance and timeliness of the session. Texila American University will continue to hold such awareness programs as part of its mission to uphold academic integrity, student welfare, and institutional accountability.
