Texila American University (TAU) welcomed a senior delegation from St. George’s University (SGU) to its Guyana campus recently. The visit was part of TAU’s continued effort to build meaningful connections with respected institutions in the field of medical education.
Who Was in the Room
SGU was represented by Dr. Marios Loukas, President and Dean for Medicine, and Dr. Mark Clunes, Provost. On the TAU side, the delegation was received by CEO Syam Kumar, Provost Dr. Hugh Duckworth, and Dr. Dheeraj Bansal, Dean and Chief Academic Officer of the College of Medicine.
What Was Discussed
The two teams covered a range of topics that matter to both institutions right now. Healthcare developments in Guyana featured prominently, alongside current trends shaping medical education more broadly. Both sides also identified areas of academic interest they hold in common.
Public health was a particularly active thread in the conversation. Texila walked the SGU team through its public health offerings, including its PhD in Public Health programme, and both sides spoke openly about where collaboration and knowledge exchange could create real value for students, for faculty, and for the communities they serve.
A Wider Picture
The visit is one piece of a larger effort by Texila and SGU to deepen its ties across the region.
The meeting ended on a constructive note. Both teams left the table with a shared interest in keeping the conversation going, and in finding concrete areas where their work can complement each other.
