Inaugural Class of Guyana Police Force and Guyana Defense Force CPD Training Commenced

TAU launches continuous development program for Guyana Police Force and Guyana Defense Force

Texila American University (TAU) on the 17th of June 2022 commemorated the joining of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) and the Guyana Defense Force (GDF) in their Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Program with a brief orientation ceremony.  

CPD Program is geared toward offering the GDF and GPF ranks an opportunity for higher education in many core subjects and acquiring a Certificate at the end of these programs and allowing them to better serve our country in making decisions and becoming great leaders, also preparing them for the future.

In a speech by the Founder and President Mr. S.P. Saju Bhaskar mentioned

We shall strive to provide the best quality of service for this program to be a success.

Launch Event – GPF – 9:00 AM

In attendance was the Honorable High Commissioner of India to Guyana Dr. K.J. Srinivasa, Mr. Dheeraj Bansal Dean – College of Medicine TAU, Police Commander Superintendent Mr. Keithon King, Guyana Police Force’s Training Officer, and Ms. Nicola Kendall Head, Strategic Planning Unit.

Launch Event – GDF: 2:00 PM

In attendance was the Honorable High Commissioner of India to Guyana Dr. K.J. Srinivasa, Mr. Dheeraj Bansal Dean – College of Medicine TAU, Lt. Col. Ms. Lorraine Foster, Lieutenant Colonel Mr. Selwyn Austin, the ranks of GDF for the program and representatives from the Texila American University.

The High Commissioner of India Dr. K.J Srinivasa stated he feels incredibly happy to be part of this event and is immensely proud that there are doing this for Guyana.

During the ceremony, the Student Affairs Manager Mr. Kishore Kumar went through different slides in assisting the ranks to access the learning system developed to deliver the platform. The meeting was ended by a speech by Lt. Col. Lorraine Foster in which she stated, ‘they are deeply appreciative of this opportunity from Texila American University to have their officers in rank undergo periods of study with them’.

Texila Host’s Health Camp for Guyana Police Force

Texila American University, Guyana, organized a health camp for the Police Training School. The event was organized as a part of Texila American University’s Corporate Social Responsibility and saw Texila Faculty and students checking the Blood Sugar, Pressure, and vitals of the Police Personnel. Many GPF staff used the opportunity and caught advice from the TAU staff. The event received appreciation from the police team and suggested more request medical camps at different police facilities.

Texila-Guyana Police Force MoU Aims at Enhancing Professional Development of Police Officers

Texila American University (TAU), on 14 April 2022 signed a Memorandum Of Understanding (MoU) with the Guyana Police Force (GPF). It was signed by Texila officials Mr Syam Kumar and Dr Deeraj Bansal, Deputy Commissioner of Police Mr Calvin Brutus and GPF representative Ms Nicola Kendall.

The MOU augments learning opportunities for the Guyana Police Force through the Center for Professional Development (CPD) of TAU. As a result, nearly 3,500 Guyana Police officers will benefit from CPD’s short-term courses.

GPF is being offered courses in medicine, nursing, business, soft skills, and public health. This initiative ensures that the GPF stays abreast of crucial academic developments.

Under the MoU, the courses will be offered free of cost to the GDF with each lasting for three months. On successful completion of the courses, ranks will be declared along with the issuance of certificates.
