As a part of the series of panel discussions launched during COVID, Texila American University conducted its fifth online discussion on the topic “Impact of COVID-19 on Medical Education and Clinical Training in Guyana.”The discussion was conducted on 26th June 2020 saw active participation from the students and faculty of Texila American University, along with other members from the community. During the discussion,Dr. ShamdeoPersaud, Chief Medical Officer, Ministry of Health, Guyana, shared his views on COVID-19’s impact on medical education and clinical training in Guyana,along with Dr. Hugh K. Duckworth, Chief Academic Officer, and Dr. DheerajBhansal, Dean,Texila American University.
The session involved informative and fascinating discussions on the virus’s erratic behavior depending upon a specific demographic or geographic area and how Guyana and the US were handling it. The panel also centered on the discussion on the world’s medical students and how Guyana, in particular, was coping with the situation and how they could stay safe while improving upon it.
The session provided the participants with the first-hand and interesting insights into these experts’ observations and an academically inclined take on the situation, which would benefit medical students.
