Dr. Rochelle Bailey’s incredible journey into medicine feels like it was meant to be. Medicine runs deep in her family, with her father being a highly respected public health specialist, her mother being a dedicated retired nurse, and her sister pursuing psychiatry at The University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona.
As the latest Bailey to join the medical profession, Rochelle firmly believes that her path to becoming a doctor was destined. Reflecting on her childhood, she shares, “I was always naturally drawn to science. It just clicked with me more than any other subject. Even if I hadn’t grown up surrounded by medicine, I know in my heart that it would have been my true calling. Growing up with both of my parents in the medical field was a real blessing. They are my guiding lights.”
Despite their busy schedules, her parents ensured she received the best care and provided her with valuable guidance. They instilled a strong sense of resilience and a tough-love mentality, which has shaped her immensely. Rochelle proudly identifies herself as the daughter of Dr. Alverston Bailey, a well-respected public health specialist and family physician who once served as the president of the Medical Association of Jamaica. Her sister’s journey into psychiatry at UWI and her mother’s accomplished career as a registered nurse have further reinforced her connection to the medical world.
Rochelle’s success story is a testament to her unwavering determination and the profound influence of her family. With their support and her own relentless drive, she has embraced the noble path of medicine, ready to make a difference and positively impact the lives of others.
