Dr. Dave Paguntalan – TAUs Representative Private Nursing School appointed as a Board member of the Nursing Council, Guyana
The nursing and midwives council is an organization that regulates nurses, midwives, and nursing associates. Every state and country has set up its nursing and midwives council to oversee the registration and evaluate the quality of nursing professionals practicing in the respective regions. As per the Nurses and Midwives Act No. 7 of 2022, Guyana’s Health Minister, Dr. Frank Anthony, announced the board members of its nursing council who will be serving on the board for three years from July 1, 2022, to June 30, 2025. The members are eligible to serve on the board only once and cannot be re-appointed or re-elected. The framework for the council’s responsibilities and functions was denied, with the freedom to elect their Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, and other officers.
The council’s purpose is to ensure that all quailed nurses, midwives, and nursing assistants practicing in Guyana are registered and assess their skills to ensure effective healthcare delivery and protect public health. It’s a proud and overwhelming moment for Texila American University that our Representative Private Nursing School, Dr. Dave Paguntalan, was appointed as a board member of the Nursing Council, Guyana. It’s a great recognition of the institution’s modest contributions to the eld of education. On behalf of the Texila family, we congratulate Dr. Dave Paguntalan and wish him success as he prepares to take up the responsibilities and challenges associated with his position.
The council will be working to meet the following goals.
- Improving the nursing system in the country
- Devise laws to regulate the practice
- Increase registration of nurses
- Address concerns of nursing professionals
- Retention of qualified professionals
The government is also closely working with WHO to impart training for registered practicing nurses to improve their efficacy in anticipating and imparting quality healthcare services.
