Program Aim

The Bachelor of Public Health curriculum prepares students for careers in Public Health, protection, preservation, and promotion of the health of communities and populations. Public health professionals, therefore, need to be appropriately trained to respond to various community health problems. Through training and acquisition of relevant knowledge and skills in a multidisciplinary manner, public health professionals will understand how to identify and approach issues affecting populations, be able to develop appropriate strategies for resolving them and monitor their implementation. The College of Public Health (CoPH) thus provides opportunities for such training, as well as for research and public health practice.

Program Objective

The student who graduates with a major in public health will be able to:

  • The advancement of health, the prevention of disease, and the empowerment of people to manage their illnesses and disabilities are all important goals in the field of public health.
  • Explain relevance of basic health sciences in public health.
  • Appreciate behavioral, socio-cultural, economic, and other dimensions of health and diseases.
  • Analyze health systems from a public health perspective – effectiveness, efficiency, equity, and justice.
  • Manage – plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate – health systems, programs, and services.
  • Train and manage human resources for health.
  • Conduct health research for evidence-based decision-making process in public health.
  • Demonstrate leadership to organize and mobilize community to address health problems.
  • Master the most current methods for analyzing, interpreting, and reporting public health.
  • Estimate short- and long-term public health needs.
  • Aimed to enhance learner’s skills in the field of Public Health, acquire a general theoretical background for understanding the concepts in Public Health.

Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs)

The program learning outcomes (PLOs) set out the academic learning, skills, and achievements that the student must reliably demonstrate before graduation. This section lists the BPH program learning outcomes.

Upon successful completion of the courses in the public health program, the graduating students shall demonstrate:

  • Skills in public health.
  • Knowledge of domestic and global public health.
  • Trains students in individual fields of biological research with a focus on understanding, preventing, and treating diseases affecting large populations.
  • Proficiency in understanding public health sector.
  • Ability to use library and internet resources in researching public health and presenting their conclusions in a written and an oral report.
  • Ability to estimate the short- and long-term public health needs.
  • Able to prepare and analyze public health policies.
  • Graduates at this level will apply knowledge and skills to demonstrate autonomy, well-developed judgment, adaptability and responsibility as practitioner or learner in the wide areas of Public.
