A regional pathway for Jamaican students

For Jamaican students who want to study medicine without the cost or distance of a U.S., UK, or Canadian medical school — and without competing for a limited number of seats at UWI Mona — TAU Guyana offers a structured, accredited route into medicine right here in the Caribbean. The curriculum is built around U.S. medical education standards and prepares graduates to pursue licensure in Jamaica through the Medical Council of Jamaica, as well as internationally.

TAU’s curriculum recognizes CXC/CSEC and CAPE qualifications for entry into the pre-medical and combined programs, and graduates have the flexibility to return to Jamaica to practice or pursue residency through the USMLE or MCCQE pathways for opportunities abroad.

Key Highlights for Jamaican Students

  • Entry pathway recognizing CXC/CSEC and CAPE qualifications
  • Pathway to licensure through the Medical Council of Jamaica
  • Optional U.S. and Canadian residency pathways via USMLE and MCCQE
  • Triple-accredited MD program (CAAM-HP, ACCM, BAC)

Trinidad & Tobago

A globally recognized route for T&T students

Students from Trinidad & Tobago who want to pursue medicine without the cost of overseas study – or without the constraints of limited domestic seats at UWI St. Augustine – will find TAU Guyana a strong regional alternative. As a fellow CARICOM neighbor, TAU offers a U.S.-modeled MD program with the international accreditation needed to support licensure pathways back home in Trinidad & Tobago, as well as in the United States, Canada, and beyond.

TAU recognizes CXC/CSEC and CAPE qualifications for entry, and graduates can apply for licensure through the Medical Board of Trinidad & Tobago. The same U.S. clinical rotations and integrated licensing exam preparation are available, giving T&T graduates the flexibility to practice at home or pursue residency abroad.

With limited domestic options for full medical training, most Bahamian students pursuing medicine look abroad. TAU Guyana offers a regional alternative that’s culturally close to home, internationally accredited, and significantly more affordable than U.S., UK, or Canadian medical programs. Bahamian students can study medicine in an English-speaking CARICOM country and return to The Bahamas to pursue licensure through the Bahamas Medical Council – or extend their careers internationally.

TAU recognizes BGCSE and BJC qualifications (Grades 12 and 13) for entry into the Pre-Medical and Combined programs, and its U.S.-modeled curriculum prepares Bahamian graduates for residency and practice across the Caribbean, the United States, Canada, and the UK.
