Guyana’s climate is warm and tropical throughout the year. The rainfall is generally high for most of the year, as is the humidity. December to January and May to June are the rainy seasons, while in coastal areas the climate is tempered by sea breezes.

International and regional airlines fly quite frequently to the Cheddi Jagan International Airport ( GEO ), also called Dr. Cheddi Jagan International Airport (IATA: GEO, ICAO: SYCJ) at Georgetown. It is situated at Linden, about 41 km south of Georgetown, the capital city of Guyana. Guyana’s GDP per capita is rapidly increasing on account of oil production and the country is expected to remain one of the fastest growing economies with double digit growth rates in 2023 and 20242. While, historically, Guyana’s GDP per capita was among the lowest in South America, extraordinary economic growth, averaging 31.7 percent over the last two years, brought real GDP per capita to over US$11,052 in 2021, from US$6,478.3 in 2019. Real GDP is estimated to have increased by 57.8 percent in 2022, owing primarily to an expansion of oil production.
Apart from oil, The economy is also dependent upon the export of sugar, gold, bauxite, shrimp, timber, and rice.

About TAU Guyana
Texila American University Guyana started its campus in 2010 and registered with National Accreditation Commission the same year. Texila American University has a rich history of milestones and achievements since its inception. It was registered with the National Accreditation Council of Guyana in 2010, setting the foundation for recognized educational standards. The university established a clinical affiliation with the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation the same year.
In 2011, Texila American University welcomed its first batch of MD students, marking the beginning of its medical education programs. The following years saw significant developments, including the launch of the School of Nursing and the Texila E Journal in 2013.
The university expanded its physical presence in 2014 with the establishment of an annex campus in Goedverwagting. In 2015, the ground-breaking of the new campus in Providence reflected its commitment to providing state-of-the-art facilities.
Texila American University pursued international collaborations in 2016, establishing a clinical affiliation in the United States. In 2018, it launched the Texila International Conference Series, promoting knowledge exchange globally.
Continuing its growth, the university established a new clinical campus in Tucson, Arizona, USA, in 2019. It also introduced the College of Public Health and the College of Business Management to diversify its academic offerings.
In 2020, Texila American University affiliated with Monroe College, USA, and introduced NBME examinations for improved evaluations. The university also launched Post Graduate Medicine Programs during this time.
The year 2021 marked significant partnerships with Lecturio and Kaplan for enhanced online content and the Basic Science Review Program. Texila American University received approval for the Canadian Loan Program, aiding Canadian students financially.
In 2022, the university expanded its network with partnerships, including the Guyana Online Academy of Learning, the GROW Initiative, Guyana Defense Force, and Guyana Police Force. The College of Hospitality and Tourism was launched, along with a partnership with CTH, UK.
Recently, in 2023, Texila American University achieved a major milestone by obtaining accreditations from CAAM-HP and ACCM, reaffirming its commitment to academic excellence and producing competent professionals.

Yes, TAU graduates are eligible to practice in Canada. Anyone wishing to practice in Canada must clear the Medical Council of Canada Evaluating examinations: the MCCQE Part 1 (MCC Qualifying Exam Part I) and the NAC (National Assessment Collaboration) Examination. The exams test the knowledge, skills, and attitudes essential for entrance into postgraduate training or residency in Canada. IMGs must take both examinations to apply to the Canadian residency program with the Canadian Residency Matching Service (CaRMS).
Students will be eligible to practice in US upon clearing the Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board (PLAB) exam
Students are expected to have 2.7 GPA for admission. However While grades are important, the Admissions Committee evaluates candidates holistically and hence students with lower GPA are also encouraged to apply for admissions.
Four Years
We offer admission in March and September of every year. However students are encouraged to apply at least 6 months in advance to ensure their seat for the intake of interest.
