Programs
Texila American University (TAU) offers THREE PATHWAYS for medical education, catering to students with diverse educational backgrounds and qualifications who aspire to earn an MD degree
4-Year MD Program
This pathway is primarily designed for students from the US and Canada who have completed premedical coursework, accumulating at least 90 credit hours toward their undergraduate degree. Prospective students must have completed prerequisite courses in science, English, and mathematics to qualify. However, applicants from other regions are also eligible and will be assessed based on their undergraduate coursework. The program includes 5 semesters of basic science coursework at the Guyana campus and 4 semesters of clinical science coursework, which can be completed either in Guyana or the USA.
5-Year MD Program
The 5-year MD program is tailored for students from the 10+2 education system in India and Nepal, as well as those who have completed the necessary coursework in A-level (British system), International Baccalaureate, or CAPE. This program includes one year of advanced science coursework, equivalent to 90 credit hours of college-level coursework, followed by basic science and clinical science coursework.
Premed Program
The combined premed plus MD program is a 5.5-year MD pathway designed for students who have completed the necessary coursework in the Caribbean CSEC, British ‘O’ level, secondary education from African countries, or a high school diploma from the US or Canada. This program offers college-level science and other required courses, enabling students to accelerate their career plans by completing all medical prerequisite courses in three semesters over 18 months. Upon completion of the premed program students matriculate into the 4 year MD Program.
