On March 14, 2025, Texila American University (TAU) hosted a vibrant and culturally rich celebration of Pagwah, also known as Holi, in collaboration with the High Commission of India. This festive occasion brought together the vibrant colors of tradition, culture, and unity, with special guests and participants from across the community.
The event was inaugurated with an inspiring presidential speech from the President of Guyana, who spoke about the significance of Pagwah in fostering unity and celebration of cultural diversity. The President’s address set the tone for the day, highlighting the importance of togetherness in the nation’s rich multicultural fabric.
Following the presidential speech, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Guyana delivered a special address, further emphasizing the importance of such cultural events in strengthening the bonds of friendship and understanding among nations and communities.
The Indian High Commissioner took the stage next, offering a heartfelt speech about the significance of the Holi festival in India and its universal message of joy, renewal, and the triumph of good over evil. The High Commissioner’s words resonated deeply with the audience, bringing a sense of shared tradition and celebration across cultures.
Around 60 enthusiastic students from Texila American University actively participated in the event, joining in the festivities with excitement and energy. Their involvement highlighted the strong connection between the student community and the event’s cultural significance.
The highlight of the event was the mesmerizing performance by a traditional music troupe from Punjab, India. The troupe performed lively dances and played authentic music, infusing the atmosphere with the infectious energy of Punjabi culture. The event also featured various dance performances and songs from talented dancers and singers from Guyana, showcasing the rich diversity of local talent and enhancing the celebratory spirit of the occasion.
The grand event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Director of the Swamy Vivekananda Cultural Center (SVCC), Guyana. The Director expressed gratitude to the organizers, participants, and distinguished guests for their contributions, ensuring the success of this colorful and joyful event.
