On September 5, 2020, the High Commission of India, Georgetown, in association with Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, organized an event in honor of teachers on the occasion of Teachers’ Day.
The following officials addressed the gathering:
- H. E. Dr. K. J. Srinivasa, High Commissioner
- Dr. Paloma Mohamed, Vice-Chancellor, University of Guyana
- Dr. Gomathinayagam Subramanian, Director, Berbice Campus, University of Guyana
- Dr. Dheeraj Bansal, Dean, Texila American University
- Mr. Sumit Srivastava, Team Head, Centre for Development of Advanced Computing
The event kicked off with a moment of prayer followed by the various officials’ speeches, followed by Dr. Dheeraj Bansal in tribute to teachers. In his speech, Dr. Bansaldedicated a short prayer as a tribute to teachers and recognized Indian doctors’ contributions across the world, especially in the USA, and the impact on the patient with compassion and empathy.
He also highlighted the importance of tradition and Ayurveda medicine and educated the attendees about COVID-19 treatment, which is under development. He touched upon medical tourism and its impact, which attracted patients from the Middle East and Africa and most recently from the USA and the UK.
He provided insight into surgery, which he clarified as not a modern medical practice, as many might assume as it is in existence for more than 1,000 years. He also emphasized that medical education and research are critical in our modern society’s growth.
The event focused on highlighting the achievements made solely by education and its significance, which one has to keep in mind, especially during this COVID-19 pandemic.
