World No Tobacco Day Event at Texila American University, Guyana – 27th June 2025

Texila American University commemorated World No Tobacco Day on 27th June 2025 with an engaging and impactful event aimed at raising awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco use and promoting a healthier, smoke-free lifestyle.

The program commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Dheeraj Bansal, Dean & Chief Academic Officer of the College of Medicine, who emphasized the importance of preventive healthcare and the vital role future physicians play in public health advocacy. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty, staff, and students, reflecting a strong collective commitment to the cause.

An insightful session led by students followed, highlighting the medical and societal consequences of tobacco consumption. Their presentations were both educational and thought-provoking, sparking meaningful dialogue among attendees.

A major highlight of the event was the Poster Presentation Competition, where students from various classes showcased creativity and advocacy through impactful posters focused on tobacco cessation and health awareness.

Adding an artistic dimension, a group of students performed an original poem, delivering powerful messages in a creative and memorable manner. Taking their advocacy beyond the classroom, some students also engaged in community outreach, interacting with members of the public to educate them about the dangers of smoking and encouraging them to quit—demonstrating exemplary initiative and leadership.

The jury panel, headed by Dr. Bansal, reviewed and evaluated all poster presentations, considering both content and delivery. The top three posters were recognized with certificates and prizes, while all other participants received certificates of appreciation for their commendable efforts.

Overall, the event was informative, inspiring, and impactful, reinforcing Texila American University’s commitment to producing socially responsible healthcare professionals and contributing meaningfully to public health education.
