On Saturday, October 3, 2020, the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) launched a “Plant a Tree” initiative in celebration of Agriculture Month.As a longstanding member of the GCCI Green Economy Committee, Texila American University (TAU)takes pride in being part of this great initiative. Representatives from TAU have joined hands with GCCI membersand took part in the events.
In collaboration with the Ministry of Education, members of GCCI planted a wide variety of fruit trees, including cherry, cashew, gooseberry, pear, and mango, to name a few across several Georgetown schools.
This initiative aims to bring awareness to balancing the ecosystem. Planting more trees and taking care of them will allow children to learn early on, reducing the carbon footprint, improving air quality, and providing homes to species such as butterflies, squirrels, and birds.
The emphasis on this plantation drive in school is to educate children mainly on trees’ importance and contribution to the ecosystem. As trees provide not just oxygen but also shade, conserve water and regulate the temperature and soil nutrients and, at a large scale, moderate the local climate system too.
