Texila American University College of Medicine conducted a Clinical Faculty Retreat on January 30, 2026, at Kara Lodge, Georgetown, Guyana. The retreat brought together clinical faculty members and residents based at Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, along with selected clinical faculty members from Tucson, Arizona.
The retreat provided an opportunity for faculty members to engage in meaningful discussions on the continuous improvement of the clinical education program. Key agenda items included a review of the clinical curriculum, clinical policies and procedures, student assessment practices, and expectations for clinical teaching and supervision.
A significant portion of the retreat focused on strengthening the teacher-learner relationship and fostering a positive learning environment for medical students. Faculty members reviewed institutional expectations regarding professionalism, mutual respect, effective feedback, and appropriate faculty-student interactions within clinical settings.
Discussions were also held on the University’s Student Mistreatment Policy, including the identification, prevention, reporting, and management of student mistreatment. Faculty and residents were reminded of their responsibilities in maintaining a safe, respectful, and supportive educational environment that promotes student well-being and professional development.
The retreat further provided a forum for sharing best practices in clinical teaching, discussing challenges encountered in clinical training, and identifying opportunities to enhance the overall educational experience for students.
The event concluded with a renewed commitment from faculty and residents to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, strengthen the clinical learning environment, and ensure the delivery of a high-quality, student-centered clinical education program.
